I am having difficulty connecting to any vehicle, and am trying to figure out if my adapter is failing or i have another problem.
I am running forscan 2.3.65 with extended license and have installed the adapter updating program and brought it up to date. I have tried uninstalling forscan and reinstalling it multiple times and that hasn't seemed to help. The adapter is a obdlinkex Model EX101
When I connect to the vehicle, the majority of the time it says unable to connect to vehicle and give me a list of previous profiles to choose from. I have found that if I unplug the usb drive and plug it back in around 10 -20 times and get a green light on the adapter instead of yellow, it then attempts to connect to the vehicle, gets stuck on the first module then times out after a few minutes.
Very randomly it does connect successfully but it does require a large amount of time and effort and I cannot pinpoint what that reason for the random sucess is.
I am specifically trying to 2024 model year ford super duties all the way back to 2012 and having trouble connecting to all of them.
It gradually got harder and harder to make a successful connection, and now almost doesn't want to connect at all which makes me believe the adapter is going bad. Should I order a new adapter or am I missing something?

The first thing that comes to mind, are your using a computer(MSI Or HP Laptop with only USB 3 ports) or with the EX plugged into a USB 3 port(Port has a blue separator rather than white)! OBDLink did report a problem with USB 3 on Some HP laptops similar to the problem that Vlinker FS has reported on some Laptops with MSI boards with the Adapter plugged into a USB 3 port! If the computer has USB 2 ports (White separator) try using the EX only in those!Ryandamo wrote: Sat Mar 22, 2025 12:01 pm I am having difficulty connecting to any vehicle, and am trying to figure out if my adapter is failing or i have another problem.

The other fix and the one vLInker is using at the moment as a workaround( free hubs to vGate vLinker customers who contact vLinker support and there is a topic on the Forum covering this) to the USB 3 problem is to use a USB 2 hub to connect the adapter and connect the hub to the USB port!
That is being discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28290
OBDLInk did use this workaround as well with the USB 3 problem early on with the EX Adapter and there is a forum topic discussing that here viewtopic.php?p=68522#p68522 and the OBDLink support link is in the topic!
Failed adapters from OBDlink are rare but it has happened so if the USB 2 Port or USB 2 hub does not improve the situation the adapter is probably failing!

Thanks for the reply i don't believe i have a usb 3 port as my laptop is around 10 years old and has worked flawlessly for a few years with forscan up until this point. I guess I will try ordering a new adapter and see if that solves the problem

Re: Trouble Connecting to vehicle obd link Ex
I tried using the OBDlLinkEX on my 19 Navigator. It will not work. Using Forscan Lite (Android). I get no green or any other color LED when plugged into OBD..yes, motor is running, I have used Forescan for other Ford projects. I did plug into USB on laptop and it seems to be working fine, but I am not spending $20 to buy another license just to use the PC. Any ionsight available out there?
