Hello. I work mainly on 11th generation 2004-2009 Ford F-150. I followed the Instructions on the forscan website and bought the recommended OBDLink EX. I have a limited list of modules in the programming section so I went to the forum to find that this generation of F-150 has a UBP(Uart Based Protocol) that FTDI Based adapters (ELM327 type) cannot access. This would have been handy information when I was buying the recommended For scan adapter. The thread linked at the bottom is also confusing on the potential solution. At one point it states "success with with a Ford VCM 2 adapter" and in another area It says "If you have a V linker FS, you are half way there". My question is what adapter do I need to program the correct mileage to a repaired IC, Install the listed update to the PCM, do PATS programming I assume is located in the PCM and have access to tire size and all other available definable variables. I have not explored but I also need to reprogram/reset the SRS module after a crash.

Thank You in advance for your help.

FORScan will not reset the crash flag in the air bag module. It likely will not program mileage, possibly only increase mileage. The vLinker is required to update the PCM. Tire size and axle ratio updates require a complete reflash of the PCM. PATS should be no problem with the vLinker. You also need the beta 2.4.xx version to program the PCM.

To Add to Joh Answer: Odometer rewrite/Increase on these(P/N 5L34 10849 BB Orig replaced by 5L34 10849 BC) does not work through the DLC connector even with the VCM2! On these IPC's the odometer reading is contained in the Main Processor(Freescale MC9S12H) and not in a separate Eprom chip as in most later IPC's!rippinandrunnin wrote: Mon Apr 07, 2025 8:16 pm Hello. FORScan did have odometer Increase available in earlier versions (2.4.02 I was using at the time) for these IPC's and I tried it when I replaced mine, but all it would actually do is corrupt the Asbuilt and the numbers that were shown never made any sense and any that were input to change the mileage reading to the higher correct level would never actually change the display!
I was advised by FORScan team at the time, that the feature was removed from appearing in (2.4.05 and up and do not know what version in the 2.3.xx) for these IPC's because it never did work and also was advised that the only way they found in their research was to send the IPC out to an IPC re-builder company for main processor programming at the chip level!
Their Research also found that Ford dealers can write this once on a "new" IPC but they said they could not find out how it was done or if it can only be written once!
That was my experience with Odometer rewrite on these! Mine is still showing the the lower reading from the the 2005 F150 it came out of and I suspect the truck it came out of had also been replaced as the AsBuilt had one character different in the in the IPC from the factory asbuilt reading for that trucks VIN(It actually showed the same as my VIN original IPC asbuilt) which was the third unchangeable character in the IPC from that truck was a C and the original in both original AsBuilts was an E!
Made no difference in how the the IPC worked and the original problems disappeared(oil pressure gauge showing oil pressure with the engine off, Brake light on continuously without the parking brake applied, no Air bag light causing permanent RCM DTC)!
The Vlinker FS should do what you want in the PCM(VIN ID block rewrite for PCM replacement or Tire size change) but the UBP network will be VCM2 only with FORScan(did not find any J2534 PASS THRU adapters the support UBP or even know what it is)!
Pats is in the PCM(10/12 minuet Timed Access) and should be no problem for Vlinker FS or any good adapter and good transponders!
RCM crash flag reset is likely an a EEprom rewrite on these with a chip programmer(Ford WS manual says to replace the RCM module if the Crash Flag DTC is set)
Hope that clears up any confusion?
