2023 Ford Ranger/Amarok Fault Codes

Post by TomPiet »

Hello All,

New to the group seeking some advise,.

In short, about six weeks ago i got a three faults appeared on my dash, Front Camera Malfunction service required, Pre Collision Assist Not Available and when i put car in reverse "Reverse Brake Assist Not Available. When i took the car to VW here in Australia, they said that these issues are not covered under warranty as i installed slightly larger tires on the ute and they want to charge $600 to re-calibrate the system.

The wheels and tires have been on my car since new which is over 2 years, these faults only came up six weeks ago. I disagree with their findings but would appreciate anyone's input on this issue.

When i run Forscan the following faults appear which cannot be reset

===PSCM DTC U023A:00-28===
Code: U023A - Lost Communication With Image Processing Module 'A'

Thanks Tom
Not familiar with the vehicle but I I have seen the U3000:49 code before in other modules, set in your IPMA! That is a Terminal code meaning the module has an internal failure(circuit board failure etc.) and the only fix from Ford is replace and program the module(IF that U3000:49 or :96 DTC appears in a Module the usual referral in the Pin Point test is directly to module replacement)!
U3000 codes cannot be cleared by a scan tool usually!

This code is quite likely causing the problems in the PSCM(IPMA, PSCM and Park assist communicate on steering wheel position among others) and the Digital Park Assist Camera Module as all three depend on data flow over the respective network(HSCAN/MSCAN or LIN) in order to function together as designed and the IPMA is not responding at all or it's data is invalid or unreadable! A self test may or may not tell you more. I have had modules with the U3000 code, pass self test and still not work on the network!

The only comment on the Warranty situation(assuming the IPMA is still covered) I will make is that the Dealer(Did the Dealer actually scan this truck before blaming tire size) or seems to using the tire size as a cop out but that is just my opinion for what it is worth! Might be worth trying another Dealer for second opinion because this one seems to be little lazy!
Again Just my opinion from being in the Business for 50+ years!

Thanks for the feedback. As i am not familiar with these codes, if it was an issue with the tires and sensor calibration the U3000 code should not be appearing?

Tire Size/Gear ratio mismatch will set a DTC (Usually P1635 or U0422) in the PCM, BCM or TCM(Depends on which module handles the Revs per mile calculation) and usually only if the parameters or the actual wheels/Gear ratio have been changed and the Revs mile setting was not adjusted in software(PCM/BCM) Non AsBuilt or AsBuilt Configuration! It definitely should not cause a module internal failure that sets that type of U3000 code and especially not in the IPMA!

A large tire and wheel change say of several sizes up or down from original(usually this causes a Rev Per mile setting that is out of the PCM/TCM or BCM's modules adjustable range) with corresponding DTC's being set like the above, could cause a misalignment in the camera system that could set the B1578 DCT but it should not cause a U3000 type code! Those Codes(U3000 :49 :61, :72 and :96) are all indicating some kind of Module internal failure and usually terminal!

Don't let the Dealer snow you on this.
If that IPMA is still under warranty coverage and you can prove the tires are original(should not matter any way) they should be replacing it and performing the PMI(Programmable Module Install) and Camera realignment under warranty(if it is needed or the B1578 DTC persists after the new IPMA)! I suspect it will only need dtc cleared, the Reboot/KAM Clear(Keep Alive Memory) as Ford calls it, and a possible 30 minuet drive relearn!

Hope That Helps?
