[RESOLVED] Ford Ranger 2023 – B1313 DTC "Interior Lighting Output"

Post by juanfolco »

Scenario:
While scanning a 2023 Ford Ranger 3.2 TDCi Automatic 4x4 with FORScan, the following intermittent trouble code appeared:

BdyCM - DTC B1313:15-48
Code: B1313 - Interior lighting output

Vehicle Symptoms:
No visible faults detected in the interior lighting system.
All interior lights (roof, door open lights, etc.) operated normally.

Root Cause Identified:
The vehicle had a USB cable connected to the illuminated USB port on the center console, used for Apple CarPlay (iPhone). The USB port features perimeter lighting controlled by the Body Control Module (BdyCM).

Confirmed Hypothesis:
The connected cable, although functional, caused transient interference or voltage spikes.

The USB port's perimeter lighting is electrically linked to the interior lighting output circuit monitored by the BdyCM.
After unplugging the cable and clearing the DTC with FORScan, the error did not reappear during several days of normal use.

Solution:
✔️ Remove the USB cable and clear the DTC.
✔️ Monitor for reoccurrence.
✔️ Optional: replace the cable with a high-quality (MFi certified for Apple devices) USB cable or avoid leaving it plugged in when the vehicle is off.

Recommendation:
If B1313 appears without visible lighting faults, first check for:

Connected USB cables or adapters.
Active power outlets.
Any auxiliary lighting integrated with the monitored circuit
