New PSCM - how to initialize?

Post by Trinom »

Hello, I've been asked for a help. Local shop changed complete power steering on 2016 Mustang for a brand new one and now they are facing this DTC:
U2100:55-8b initial configuration not complete
I tried the normal approach with Forscan, but there is no way to initialize the learning. I transfered PSCM configuration from the old unit to the new one (I have both saved), but that didn't help either.
Google suggests, that there should be some kind of PMI (power steering module initialization) in the configuration tab, but I don't see it anywhere.
Do you have any idea, how to continue?
Thank you.

If this was brand new from a Ford dealer, it may have come with the some of the calibration/Firmware layer blank or missing some of the calibration files!
This is common on new modules as the rack probably fits several different model lines which will have different calibrations! Normally in the dealer setting, a process called Programmable Module Installation(PMI) would be run after the mechanical install on a new module to install the correct configuration files!

Please note that this is different than uploading the AsBuilt file!

ReMan modules most of the time will not have this problem as the Reman company will usually program them for the vehicle or they will come with files already installed and only the individual vehicle AsBuilt may need to be updated!

FORScan can do this but it will require a paid license with the paid token(for access to the private beta test Download area of this forum) to download and install version 2.4.22 in order(current version) to run the Firmware update process on this PSCM!
This process is part of the "Configuration and Programming" section for each module called "Module Firmware Update": see this topic:viewtopic.php?f=13&t=18751!~

This is similar to Fords IDS/FJDS PMI process but will require downloading the required files(Will show a selection of files in the process when it is run) from either the Paid FORScan database or from fordserviceinfo.com!

This is the usual reason for a U2100 DTC!

See if that gives you a direction to go?

Hello sir. I believe the problem is caused by the lack of module initialization learning after replacing the PSCM module with a brand new one, resulting in error U2100. Forscan does not offer a module initialization configuration option. Some PSCM firmware versions require module initialization after flashing.

By flashing do you mean after installing new or updated firmware (calibration strategy etc) then you need to perform an initialisation?

Hey, could you share your module info and whether you updated the firmware and resolved the issue?

I have the same error and same situation (new EPAS installed). I bought it used with a manual rack and the guy didn’t keep/have the original EPAS.

ABS is throwing a DTC for invalid data received from PSCM.

PSCM - Power Steering Control Module
Bus: HSCAN2
Part number: GR3C-3F964-AC
Calibration level: GR3C-3F964-AC
Strategy : GL34-14D003-AD
Calibration: GR3C-14D004-AA
VIN: 1FATP8EM3F5415608
Total Distance: 117843.0 km

I read somewhere else that the L3 means F-150 and R3 is Mustang. I’m wondering if I can just update the strategy alone.
