What ISO/UBP interface to get? Or can i modify my elm327?

Post by fixit5561 »

I have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator. (I'm trying to see the modules on the UBUPUBbus)
I have a ELM327 w/mscan switch. When plugged into my navigator it asks if my interface has ISO/UBP switch.
So in reading the forum, it looks like I need to get a different interface that supporits UBP, or modify my elm327 to read UDP. (I seen where Forscan mentioned they modified an elm327 to read UDP, but I can't find any instructions on how to modify the elm327 to read the UDP bus)
I have some questions.
What is a good inexpensive ISO/UBP interface, and where can I get one? Or how can I modify my elm327?
Second, does Forscan support, and will I be able to see the modules in the USB part of the Navigator, using Forscan?

In not very technical on this stuff yet, but am learning, so please excuse my ignorance.

Thank you

As far as i have read there is no inexpensive device supporting UBP.
Ford VCMII is known to work and CANtieCAR should work, too. Costs are about $200 - $300 for these.

Tests with modified ELM where unsuccessfull so far. The modifications where not published by FORScan yet.

If FORScan does not answer here you just might ask them through PM function. ;)

Fred,
Thank you for the info. I have pm'd FORScan and they said they are still working on getting the elm327 to work with UBUP which is great news to me.

Fred, do you have any links to a Ford VCMII or a CANtieCAR that I can purchase? I have searched myself but can't find the CANtieCAR interface.

Thank you again!

Ford VCMII is available as cloned device from different sources. You should avoid the extreme cheap ones. There are even some under $100. Good quality clones are about $200.
CANtieCAR is available from manufacturer http://www.tiecar.net/products.html
There is no shop, if you click "order" on the page email program pops up.
So you need to contact sales department of the company by email if you want to buy one.

Read this for VCMII
