Mazda6 2006 Diesel Leak Down Test

Post by 2007 MZR-CD »

Has anyone done a leak down test and if so how is this performed.

It appears you need to remove the rocker cover and then when you perform this test it appears oil will spurt every where, how it this overcome.

I know nothing about diesel Mazda's, but this may help to explain how to do a leak down test:

The only reason you would need to remove the rocker cover would be to make sure that the cylinder that you are testing is at top dead centre. Even with the rocker cover removed you should not get coverd in oil when doing a leak down test.

Hope this helps.

The problem I have is that when doing a Leak Down Test the leak down equipment needs to be installed at a point on the injectors that is under the rocker/cam cover so exposing the oil that is fed to the rocker arms etc. and therefore it will splash everywhere when the engine is started. The engine needs to be run for several minutes in order to partially fill the diesel containers.

If you look at this picture you can see that it is only possible to do a leak down test by removing the cam cover. So my question is has anyone any idea how you go about measuring the leak down using the equipment which available on the net.
