[Guide] Unlock Sport Mode in Ford Fiesta MK8 1.5 TDCi

Post by xXConcasXx »

Foreword

It's superfluous to point out that any damage resulting from this modification is only your responsibility!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After months of searching, banging my head without finding anything useful and always getting the same message from everyone “It's impossible” here I am.

Today I announce that I finally managed to unlock the Sport driving mode on Ford Fiesta MK8 with 1.5 TDCi engine without Canbus Box or any other tricks.

Below the guide and prerequisites:

Prerequisites

The drive mode selection panel must be as in the following picture:

and NOT:

Consider that if production year of your car is < of late 2019 it's very likely that you will not be able to unlock this and other modes unless you upgrade/replace all the modules needed to change modes (PCM, ABS, PSCM, HVAC and most likely others).

In summary you must have at least GEN2.

Guide

You simply need to edit the first two bytes in third block in register 760-03-03 in ABS module and the possible configurations available are as follows:

And apart from ACM, APIM, IPC and IPMA the rest of the modules remained unchanged, I only updated PCM firmware and BdyCM firmware but for other reasons.

Anyway, my current configuration is:

760-03-03 -> XXXX-XXXX-2B

That enables Eco, Normal, Sport and Slippery modes.

In case of any DTCs (in my case in PCM, ABS, RCM and IMPA), you can delete them, they are temporary DTCs caused when writing the new configuration in ABS module and will not appear again.

I have not yet had a chance to thoroughly test how well this new configuration works, but I would say that it's a good place to start to finally be able to change select drive modes for real and without any adapters or tricks.

And finally...

I was already aware of how to unlock modes by modifing the ABS config, but in my case when i tried that (early 2021), after moving the car few meters a DM error appear and mode is reset to Normal.

This happened on a Fiesta MK8 1.0EB 2020 (Gen 3). Stock modes were Sport/Normal/Eco

I added Slippery and Trail.

Does Slippery mode works for you after moving the car?

I did some research in that period btw, and pretty sure that the error was related the PSCM, which is different compared to Puma / Fiesta Active, which are the cars with Factory Slippery and Trail modes. I can't see how Slipery can works for you car. Sport is a different thing, it might be fine, but since my car has it by factory i didn't have to test it lol

To be honest I haven't had a chance to test the slippery mode, I've only tried the sport mode and most likely I think it will happen as you said for the slippery mode.

I'll take the opportunity to ask you how did you activate the Trail mode, I looked everywhere for it but I couldn't find it.

Anyway as soon as I have time to do more in-depth testing I will let you know.

Change it to this:
760-03-03 -> XXXX-XX02-2B

Anyway, 99% you will get the error with the modes. As I said PSCM is involved in that... unless there is a difference between diesel and petrol

I unlocked Trail mode but changing the value to XXXX-XX20-2BXX and not XXXX-XX02-2BXX and tried it, I rode about 15 KM without any problem, no error on IPC and no DTC generated, I did the same test also for Slippery mode with the same outcome.

:)

And instead to restore the ECO mode (my Fiesta has only two modes NORMAL / ECO)? I switched from the analog to digital dashboard losing it, and I'm starting to think that it also depends on the firmware of other modules that come into play ...

Congratulations on activating the sport mode. How did you manage to update the pcm when calibrating the ML? Forscan tells me it exists but it cannot be downloaded. I have the paid license. Thank you.

My button looks identical. It should work. Why can't I download the update file to the PCM?
