Hi,
I've now the OBE2 V-Linker FS. with iPhone and Forscan lite it works, but I can't get a connection with windows Forscan !!!
Is it necessary to have a OBD connector with USB to connect from windows to the car?

I am not understanding something here!coyote67 wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 12:14 pm Hi,

Are you saying you have acquired a vLinker FS adapter and you are connecting it to your Iphone and it works with FORScan lite IOS or are you asking about The vlinker FD or FD+ as in your other thread?
If we are talking about a vLinker FS, it is a wired USB connection only and I am not sure how you are getting it to connect to the Iphone so could you please provide more information?
Sorry but your question is a little confusing!
Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
Hi,
it' sure V-Linker FS ! And it's not wired USB, only Bluetooth !
But I must say also that I've a Macbook and run there as Bootcamp Windows, maybe that could also a problem

Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
Sorry: I did not realise vGate has an FS adapter in a Bluetooth version! That would explain how you are using it with the Iphone on FORScan IOS lite!coyote67 wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 4:30 pm Hi,

I have limited experience with Macbooks and Boot Camp but I was under the impression that Macbooks did not have Bluetooth either built in or the ability nor any Apple Bluetooth drivers to run an external adapter native in the IOS operating system(USB Bluetooth)!
The IOS operating system up until possibly recently only supported, WIFI for wireless connections and that is the main reason that FORScan had developed a FORScan IOS Lite WIFI version(FORScan stated that they were never happy with WIFI in particular and Wireless in general as a connection method especially for any type of programming)!
My question would be then, can the Macbook, booted up native IOS, see and Pair via bluetooth to the vLinker FS Bluetooth adapter(Should be able to see it and pair to it in Bluetooth devices in the Macbook device settings if so)?
If not(No Bluetooth system or devices) then there is no Bluetooth adapter built in to the Macbook so your Boot Camp Windows install will not see any Bluetooth devices either because the Mac book in all likelihood has no Bluetooth Hardware!
It is also possible that if there is a native IOS Bluetooth in your Macbook, Windows may not have any drivers that can be installed for it or does not recognise it as a hardware device and so will not have an entry in the Windows device manager for it, therefore no way in Windows to access it!
You may have a chance here if the Windows install booted up in Boot camp, can access the Macbook USB bus(can you plug in a USB Flash Drive in Windows with windows files on it and see them in the Windows Explorer).
Then install a USB Bluetooth Adapter(I use a TPLink and a RocketFish USB Bluetooth adapter) and install Windows drivers for it!
Then the vLinker FS Bluetooth should be able to be seen and Paired to in Windows and with FORScan set for a Bluetooth Connection to the vLinker FS BT through the USB adapter, FORScan should be able to connect to the vehicle!
I am not sure with vLinker but as with most of these FTDI/ELM327 emulated adapters. they must be powered from the vehicle DLC connector during set up and for any connection, meaning you will need to be in the vehicle with the adapter plugged into the DLC connector in order to fully set it up in Windows!
Some of this is a semi educated guess as to my limited experience with IOS and Boot camp but hopefully it gives you a direction?

Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
Thanks for your help.
The Macbook has bluetooth an make under Mac OS also connection to Vlinker.
I had the idea of using a USB dongle, but unfortunately I don't have one available right now. My son is coming back from work next week, I hope he has one to try. If not, I'll borrow his laptop, install the software on it and try it out.

Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
Ok: Now that we have established that there is Bluetooth hardware in the Macbook, when you have it running in Windows do you have any Bluetooth devices in the Windows Device Manager and does it show about four Devices under it, if you open the drop down arrow or does it show a yellow triangle with an exclamation point or a question mark?coyote67 wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 8:40 pm Thanks for your help.

If no Bluetooth device is listed, does it show an "Unknown Device with the Question Mark in a yellow triangle in the list of devices?
If there is a Bluetooth device with a yellow triangle then Windows has identified it as Bluetooth hardware but can not find Windows driver software for it(Not surprising in a cross platform Operating system situation)! You might have a shot at finding drivers, if you can identify what hardware Apple corporation uses for their Bluetooth radio!
If you have an Unknown device(Or several) then Windows cannot even identify what hardware it is( also not surprising in cross platform situations)! Finding out what that device is. though not impossible, will be difficult!
Just some suggestions?
Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
Hi,
It looks like Windows on Mac doesn't recognize this device at all, it doesn't even show an unknown device. But there are other devices in the household. I think the problem is that Windows and Mac aren't 100% compatible with everything. It's a shame.

Re: V-Linker FS over bluetooth with windows
The discussion above was about attempting to get the vLinker Blutooth FS to connect cross platform from Windows partition bootup through boot camp on a MacBook! The Problem was that the Windows operating system apparently cannot communicate with the Apple IOS vesrsion of the Bluetooth standard (and this is common in trying to do things like this cross platform in this case Windows on Apple INTEL hardware even though it has to be{Windows running in Boot camp} an Intel MAC and likely using INTEL chip-sets)BNI1887 wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 11:11 am But it says it worked with windows... i will get mine in 2 days and will check it. If you are installing this Adapter and FORScan on a native Windows Laptop that has Bluetooth built in you should have no problem! Most do have it built in if bought new the last 5 to 8 years! If older and Bluetooth is not built in there are several hardware USB adapters that will provide it on any laptop operating windows XP(Have one) up to Windows 11(that was one of the work around that was discussed in the thread above for this Windows to MAC problem)!
